Scene
Setting, Locale
noun, の adjective
Everything on a location's surface is really just a part of the scene before you. This is the kind of scene that would be set in a novel. It's the setting.
The reading is a combination of kun'yomi and on'yomi readings. You didn't learn the kun'yomi reading for 場 with the kanji, so here's a mnemonic to help you remember it:
A scene where everyone says "baa" (ば) isn't very common… Unless you're reading a novel where all the characters are sheep! You find this novel's animal-centric setting to be pretty unique and interesting, but, honestly, all the baaing makes the dialogue a little hard to follow.
