A product thing is any type of general goods. It's about as specific as you can get when you're talking about things like this.
This is a jukugo word that uses the kun'yomi readings of the kanji. You've seen those readings before, but the one for 品 (しな) is a little tricky, so here's a mnemonic to help you remember:
Think of the sheen (しな) that new goods have before you buy them. When you bring them home, that sheen is already gone. But then you go back to the store and, wow! All the goods you don't already own have that sheen! Gotta buy them!
この時間のスーパーには品物がほとんどありません。
There are almost no goods in the grocery store around this time.
そのお店のショーケースにはたくさんの品物がならんでいました。
The store's showcases were filled with many items.
