Imagine a root vegetable, like a turnip or something. See the twisted bulb at the top, with long, stringy root tendrils dangling under it? That's why this is the root radical.
Alternatively, focus on the components: sun and kick. When the sun is out, you're outside kicking things around. But be careful — kick a root, and you might trip over it!
