To Hide Oneself
To Hide, To Be Hidden
intransitive verb, ichidan verb
隠す is "to hide something." 隠れる is to hide oneself or just to hide. You know this because when someone is hiding, it's rare (れる) for anyone else to find them. They take this hide-and-seek thing pretty seriously, you know!
This word can also mean to be hidden because sometimes the subject is an inanimate object, as in 月が雲に隠れる (the moon is hidden in the cloud).
The reading is the same as 隠す. So as long as you know that you know this as well.
ここ、隠れんぼで隠れるのにいいかも!
This seems to be a good place to hide for hide and seek!
あー、お月様が隠れちゃった。
Oh, the moon has hidden away.
アイツのシャツの下には、KFCのチキンのタトゥーが隠れている。
Under his shirt, there is a hidden tattoo of KFC chicken.
「やばい。多分あれ元彼だ。速く隠れなきゃ。」「まじで?フグってこと?」「違うよ。サメだよ。」「 サメ?サメって誰のこと?てか、あんた元カレ多すぎだっつーの!」
"Oh no. I think I just saw my ex. Quick, hide!" "What? You mean Fugu?" "No. Shark." "Shark? Who’s Shark? You have way too many exes!"
