Osaka and the gods… ? Actually, this is a region known as Hanshin. It's the area between Osaka (大阪) and Kobe (神戸). Think of it this way: 大阪 + 神戸 = 阪神. Isn't that clever? There's even a Hanshin railway company and a Hanshin Tigers baseball team — both based in the 阪神 area, of course.
