Farming Village
Rural Community
noun
A farming village is a farming village. No fancy, city-slicker mnemonics here.
農村 refers to a rural community where agriculture is the main way of life. Although it doesn't just mean countryside, you'll often see it used in contrast to something else, like 都市と農村 (urban and rural areas).
This is a jukugo word, which usually means on'yomi readings from the kanji. You didn't learn 村's on'yomi with the kanji, so here's a mnemonic to help you remember it:
Your farming village is so small that it's just you and your son (そん). You have a farm on one side of the village, and your son has his own farm on the other side. Together, you and your son form a tight-knit, two-person rural community.
