Preparation
Getting Ready For
noun, verbal noun
When you follow standard procedure to provide what's needed, you make the perfect preparation!
Both 準備 and 用意 mean "preparation," but the nuances are different. 準備 is about preparing in advance for an event or situation, often involving planning or setup. 用意 is about making sure specific items or resources are ready and available.
For example, as part of the 準備 for a party, you might 用意 food and drinks for the guests. You could use 準備 for the food and drinks too — it would just emphasize that they're part of the overall event setup.
This is a jukugo word, which usually means on'yomi readings from the kanji. If you know the readings of your kanji you'll know how to read this as well.
準備はいい?
Are you ready?
おはよう。朝ご飯の準備なら、もうできてるよ。
Good morning. If it's about breakfast, it's already prepared.
ごめん。ゆっくり寝たいっていう誘惑に負けちゃって、誕生日パーティーの準備、間に合わなかった。
I'm sorry, I gave in to the temptation to sleep in, and couldn't make it in time to prepare for the birthday party.
