Monday
noun
This is a day of the week. You know this because it has 曜日 in it. But what day of the week is it? The "moon" day of the week is Monday. Why? Because "Moon" is pretty much just "Mon," right?
This is a jukugo word, which usually means on'yomi readings from the kanji. The 曜日 part is read just like the word 曜日, which you already learned, but 月 has two different on'yomi readings, so here's a mnemonic to help you remember which one to use:
Monday is the day when a person gets (げつ) back to their regular weekday schedule. He or she gets out of bed, gets in the car, gets to work, and gets after that paycheck!
今度の月曜日、仕事の後、飲みに行かない?
Wanna go out for a drink this coming Monday after work?
月曜日は新しい週の始まりです。
Monday is the beginning of a new week.
月曜日はいつも起きるのがツライです。会社に行きたくないんで。
I always have a hard time getting up on Mondays. I don't want to go to work.
