It doesn't usually refer to deep emotions, but rather the overall sense or atmosphere you get from a situation, person, or thing. This is one of those words you'll hear and use all the time — いい感じ (nice vibe), そんな感じ (something like that), どんな感じ？(what's it like?), and so on.
