A woman who makes history will have a certain amount of status and deserves a nice title, like Lady So-and-so. That's why this word is a polite way to refer to respected and distinguished ladies.
女史 often follows a woman's family name, like 田中女史 (Ms., Mrs., or Miss Tanaka). It was common in the Showa era, but today sounds old-fashioned. Occasionally you might still see it used as a title for distinguished women, especially scholars, politicians, writers, and artists.
This jukugo word uses on'yomi readings you learned with the kanji, so you should be good to go.
Only that lady's office had an extraordinary number of books.
Apparently, the woman being called "joshi" doesn't actually like the term very much.
Ms. Sato has a strong interest in education issues, and because her speeches are easy to understand, she's popular among parents raising children.
Every morning, Ms. Kobayashi drank coffee in the same seat and read the same page. Occasionally she would only pretend to turn the page. At that point, even the café staff had memorized what was written on it.
